The Step in the Right Direction?
#1
When Claudio Scarpetta joined the league, there were a lot of question marks of where he would sign. Would he be joining the likes of his brother wherever they decide to go? Would they be going on a championship contender team and get loaned out for the development of the player? Would he join a division 2 side and try to bring the team from the bottom ranks all the way to the top of the top division?
To no surprise, he linked up with his brother and decided to join the same team and really be part of a back line that will hopefully dominate the league in a couple of years. What probably surprised most people though, was their decision to join Sydney, a team that really had nothing to build around and no hope going into the season. But the Scarpetta brothers saw something in that team. They saw the potential reset and uprising of a future team that can have a core of all young players that will all be in their primes in the same seasons.
The season started off great, surprising once again, by winning a few games and drawing against a couple of tough opponents that raised eyebrows around the league. People wondering if G2019 had something up his sleeve all along, bringing in the right pieces and a young core that had that drive to do the unthinkable, and stay up in the top division even though the team was miles behind everyone else in the league.
But that thought quickly vanished, as the team has spiraled out of control and has slowly climbed down the standings and closer towards a relegation battle of division one. But, with the group of players that Sydney has, it will probably be better for the team to take a couple of seasons off, really develop in the bottom division and be ready for top flight football in a couple of seasons or so. The young core has already gotten a taste of the top division and what it takes to win and be competitive. So, the next time they come around, whether that is next season if they fight off relegation or in a couple once they get promoted from division 2, they will be ready.
