Karl Schenkinger, the working man among virtuosos
#1
Karl Schenkinger is a special one. Watching him is unlike watching other professional footballers. When he dribbles with the ball, it's not as if the ball is glued right to his foot. His first touch doesn't control the ball as if a magnet was attached to him. He doesn't do flashy tricks, he doesn't score bangers from 40 meters out. He is, at first glance, a very mediocre player.

The first glance, however, is deceiving. Watching Karl play is a different kind of beautiful. With his impressive build, his stature and height, he barely loses a challenge in midfield and reigns supreme both on the ground and in the air. Whenever his team loses the ball, Karl seems to be right there to win it back. He fills holes, disrupts passing lanes, wins challenges and tackles, and does all the dirty work a manager wants his players to do.

He may not be a virtuoso. But every virtuoso needs a player like him on the team. A player that can regain posession, that is willing to let others have the spotlight, that wants the team to succeed before he talks about individual success.

Karl is a special one. Recently signed to Accra FC; he has already convinced the coaches to give him opportunities in the starting lineup and shows incredible promise. He has the physical tools to be one at the best in the world at what he does. We will continue to monitor him closely.
