Del Pirlo - From the streets to the academy
#1
The streets of Milan are filled with children dreaming of one day being a star in the nation’s most popular sport, football. This was pretty much the case for young Alessandro Del Pirlo whose parents saw the passion he had for the game at a very young age and decided to enroll him in the best academy they could afford. Being from a medium income household, this meant a middle of the run academy at the bottom of the youth leagues. However, Alessandro Del Pirlo was scouted within his first season by some of the best academies in the country, including the youth international teams, for being one of the best in his age group. Going through the system, Del Pirlo started as a central midfielder as he loved being in the middle of the action all the time, but eventually moved to a more offensive role as the game got progressively more organised at the higher levels of academy.
In a move that surprised more than a few, Del Pirlo decided that it would be best to skip the Italian leagues altogether and try his luck at the SSL directly, his reasoning being “If you want to be the best in the world, then you have to compete against the best in the world and win it all. And as of now, the SSL is the best league in the world”.
