It’s been a miserable week for Alessandro Del Pirlo and the Stockholm IK as a whole. Not only did the Swedish academy team draw against North Shore, whom they defeated every other time this season, but they’ve lost yet again to Victoria, in spite of the changes in strategy and formation. Some players have been more vocal than others in expressing their frustrations outward, such as Del Pirlo.
“We always end up in the other team’s rhythm and not playing our game. Then they score and we look like idiots as we do it all again or play catch up against a team who now just has to defend.”
SIK management has refused to comment on the current state of the club, rather focusing on the fact that they’re an academy team whose purpose is to develop players rather than win or perform.
In other news, SIK has also confirmed the recruitment of German defensive midfielder, Stephon Trummer to help the struggling club down the middle. This is the second mid-season recruitment after picking up goalkeeper Olafur Gunnleifsson a week earlier.
With their next matchup against current academy league leaders, Atletico Medellin, the pressure is on for Del Pirlo and his SIK teammates to start performing to the level of their talent.
