With a total of 12 games played in the season, all is still left to play for in the Academy SSL league. After two thirds of the season the standings are as such:
1. Victoria Falls Eagles – 23 points
2. Atlético Medellin – 21 points
3. Stockholm Idrottsklubb – 17 points
4. North Shore United – 3 points
Stockholm finally getting a win over Medellin signals a major turning point in the race to the championship. Current Title holders Victoria Falls hold a tenuous lead, built on early season success but have struggled as of late against Medellin and Stockholm with both sides forcing draws against the high-powered offense of the Eagles.
Looking at the remaining games, Stockholm is in a great position to upset the top two should they win some of the games against Victoria and/or Medellin, as 5 of their last 6 games are against teams ahead of them in the standings. Meanwhile, Medellin has 5 of their last 6 against teams below them. It’ll be important for them to beat North Shore and not lose against Stockholm in the final stretch.
In the end, both teams will have to find a way past Victoria Falls if they want any hope of winning the Academy SSL League and graduate as champions.
