I gotta say, writing the lore around Budget Busquets, his rivalry with Franco Torres, and his relationship to his club and region was a lot of fun. There was also a lot of lore between the players at the club and even cross sim leagues. I also have to say that football manager is probably the best sim engine out there for a sim league. The 3D engine is really cool standalone, but you add in commentary and I think it just makes SSL stand out. I really wish more of the fm community knew about the SSL and I think if it ever did become more popular in the FM community, the potential of SSL would just be raised several-fold.
I do think burnout is an issue, but there has been a sort of foundation so to speak to help with jobs being filled by new people. The whole behind the scenes for the production of the games has been improved a lot other the years thanks to the work of some folks like Canadice who still are active, but also a lot has been set-up by others in the past who have stepped down. Commentary improved a lot from my point of view as we got more structure over time. I do think that if more jobs were filled by more people, the league has potential to do even more than it currently is. I mean, the portal has improved user experience a lot in my opinion and I can see others long-term projects helping but it's hard when people take on several roles.
Some might disagree, but one of the reason I think having more folks from the fm community joining the ssl is that I think there has always been a bit of an issue of filling managerial roles and I believe a lot of people are hesitant to take on these roles due to their lack of experience with fm. I believe some of this is warranted but I also do not think that experience and knowledge of fm is the only or even the most important skill to managing in the ssl. I did enjoy a lot of my experiencing managing, but I also think it was the role I was must frustrated with. I really do enjoy making builds and creating/testing tactics, although, it basically killed my desire to play fm for fun, so I can also see that being another factor for those who do end up being managers like myself who just end up burning out. Now, I am for promotion and relegation, but I do think with the lack of managers imo, combining into organizations did relieve the workload by allowing more delegation overall, as well as, the addition of tacticians for those who prefer the management aspects over the fm aspects and vice versa.
