What went wrong in Port Royals first game of the season?

It was a rather underwhelming first game for Port Royal, one of the new teams in the Academy Leagues of the SSL. Their 1-0 loss to Stockholm was not how their team wanted to start their season off, but what exactly went wrong? I believe it to be 3 main things.

1. Lack of tactics

Port Royal seemingly did not have any tactical direction in their match, only using the default tactic that SSL provides to the academy teams. This meant they could not build around their players attributes which was always going to be a problem in a sport where tactics can mean the difference between the winning 10-0 or losing 10-0.

2. Lack of a Striker

Port Royal did not have their striker for their game against Stockholm, a massive problem when they are your main goal scorer. This meant that they could barely do anything up front, which showed considering they didn't register a single goal and only managed to get 3 shots with only one of them being on target! This is opposed to Stockholm who had a whopping 21 shots with 10 on target. With chance creation and finishing like that, its no wonder they lost.

3. Bad day at the office

While this could also be put down to the tactics that were played during the game, there is no shying away from the fact that many of the players just did not play well. Players such as Albinson (6.1), Torres (6.2) and Blackwood (6.2) did not have a good game at all, which funnily enough are the main three goal scorers. However, this is not to say its all bad, the goalkeeper put in an amazing shift, and is probably the reason the game didn't end 3-0 or 4-0, with a 7.2 match rating.

Overall, while Port Royal didn't play exceptionally well, there is no need for them to panic. With a stronger tactical direction and a bit of luck, they could very easily look an entirely different team in their next couple game weeks.
