Delvecchio was riding high. He has just had the best game of his professional career, and been given man of the match honors for his play against Atletico Medellin. All the work, all the training had finally paid off in a big way with a 1 goal, 1 assist, 1 win game to keep SIK in the top half of the league table.
When asked for comment about his play, Delvecchio had this to say to reporters "It's all team work. The trust, the knowledge of knowing that the team around me is going to be putting their best foot forward and playing the type of game that we know we excel at, that allow me to go out there and put it all on the line for this squad".
This harkens back to some earlier words that Delvecchio has spoken about at length right after the Academy teams had been announced for the season. He had made it a point to call out everyone on the team and how they had all started working on getting a feel for one another and getting into a flow state. After a hot start, it seemed like SIK had taken those words to heart, but after a small dip, you could see the energy change on the field.
However, Delvecchio said that they had a team meeting ahead of the Atletico matchup and made a promise to each other to keep things moving forward, and the energy levels high. "We're here to score goals and win games. And maybe some fun" Delvecchio said coyly. It seems as though this week has righted the ship for both Delvecchio and SIK, as the team is back in the running for the top spot, and gunning for the glory. And Delvecchio wouldn't have it any other way.
