¡Bienvenido a Sydney!
#1
Sitting in Benito Juarez International, catching little glances of the tarmac through the little portholes in the wall, Daniel Herrera had a lot on his mind. Facing down the barrel of a roughly 24 hour itinerary on his way to Sydney, Australia to meet up with his academy team, the biggest thing on his mind at the moment was the questionable logistics of such an international league. And for their academy system, no less? And why was he heading down under, instead of just a hop, a skip and a jump away to Medellin? Probably not worth dwelling on for too long.

This would be Daniel's first time out of the country - one of his first times out of his home state of Hidalgo, no less. Sure, he'd traveled a few times for school trips to Mexico City, Teotihuacan, a few trips to neighboring states for football tournaments. But this would be his first time away from home for any extended period of time. Would anybody there speak Spanish? Maybe there was some sort of mix up, and he'd be back on that plane to Medellin before too long anyway. Regardless, though, he was going to Sydney for a reason - to play football. He'd do whatever he had to to succeed in the academy, to make the team, to make his way into the greatest league in the world.
