Allow me to quickly introduce myself before I get started with this Matchday 1 review for my Team. My name is Kori Mizukana, CDM for Sydney City.
A quick take away in the prematch, my team is currently listed at checks notes 500-1 to win the Academy this season, which is the WORST among the four teams. Honestly I can't help but to feel a bit disrespected by these numbers, but there's a reason we don't play these games on paper.
Stockholm I.K., meanwhile is currently projected 2nd in the Academy at 11-4 odds, which, to mean at least, shows they're a team with a lot of depth (That we at Sydney are probably lacking, let's be fair)
ANYWAYS, on to the actual match itself...
Stockholm in a 4-4-2
Sydney in a 4-4-1-1
Sydney starts with the opening kickoff
Stockholm with an early chance of a botch throw by Sydney
More counter opportunities from Stockholm, but nothing in the net at 20. Stockholm is clearly the better team at the half though
It's clear that Sydney City really lack any possession skills at this point, something I'm sure some of the other players (not just myself) will notice and try to improve as the season progresses
Gotta give props to our keeper though, Stockholm is putting A LOT of pressure on Snor Lax but he's a gods damn TANK in goal
Second half starts with a small scare for Sydney but the big man in net is unphased
Syndey City's defending these set pieces well, looks like a strength of ours here early
A great chance for Syndey finally shows itself in the 69th minute but they just can't finish
Stockholm misses a chance off the post that SHOULD have gone in
Sydney again denies a corner chance from Stockholm
Sydney City with their own corner but can't convert
Sydney with ANOTHER great chance in the 79th goes wide, as does the subsequent corner attempt
Pointment for Sydney hits one point blank off the post
Fontaine breaks the dead lock with some GREAT ball movement from Stockholm, not a lot Lax could do about that one
Another chance for Sydney get blocked, and nothing results from the corner kick
Last chance for Sydney in stoppage time here, but a poor though ball attempt is going to end the game at 1-0 in favor of Stokholm
Stephan Lichsteiner for Stockholm takes home PotM with a 8.2 rating
As for me, I was playing back from from normal Midfield spot as a center defender, with a respectable 7.2 rating.
It's clear that Stockholm were the better team this match, but there are 100% some good takeaways I can use to shape how I train moving forward. Gotta again give HUGE props to Snor Lax in goal, otherwise this match may have been a slaughter.
Until next time.
