It had been a stressful few weeks since the end of the season. Silver's phone had been ringing constantly as calls from the teams of the SSL came in, with discussions of playing for them. He had lovely chats with coaches and owners, getting valuable insight on teams and what the chances of getting drafted by them were. Silver realized that he would be happy to play for any team that wanted him, just wanting to get on the pitch and show off the skills he had dedicated his whole life to crafting.
Then the day of the draft came. Silver was sitting with friends and family in the living room of his own home, wanting to be with the people that pushed him to do great things, wanting to celebrate with them when his name would finally be called. The pre-party was nice, getting to catch up with old friends and old teammates he had kept in touch with. When the draft finally started, the room was a bit tense. The first few picks came, when the 9th overall pick was finally revealed.
"We have União São Paulo on the clock here, a couple of times in fact. Their first pick at 9th overall is... Silver Tarandus." The whole room exploded in cheers. People patting him on the back, mom and dad cradling their boy, all while Silver sat there stunned. He didn't know what to do with himself, so much joy building up in his wings and body that he couldn't fully express. A few tears were shed as his body finally reacted on its own, holding his parents arms that were wrapped around him.
The draft went on to read some manager notes, but they were drowned out by the celebration going on around him, which continued for the rest of the night. Silver sent a text message to the head coach, thanking them for the opportunity to play with AS Paris, and that he would work hard to make the majors. Fast forwards a bit to the first days of practice and the facilities tour, learning the ins and outs the grounds he planned on spending a lot of time. He got to meet his teammates, pick out his number for the upcoming season, and have plenty of meetings with coaches about the plans going forwards.
With all of that now out of the way, Silver finds himself standing at center field on the practice pitch, soaking it all in. In just a short while, it'll be in front of thousands of fans, and it will be for real. "Let's get the season underway. Let's have some fun!" Silver tells himself, getting ready for another round of practices.
