And already, it seems as though the pressure is getting to Kaspars Kalinins. After a fantastic pre-draft campaign, Kalinins was selected first overall in the S23 SSL Prospect Draft, but, after a long night of celebrating over a few too many pints, he’s woken up the next morning flat broke. If you ignore the hangover, he certainly feels like he has more potential, a renewed sense of seasonal energy perhaps, but try as he may, he doesn’t have a dollar to his name.
In the world of sports there isn’t much worse you can be than poor. Sure, the cost of living in general might be skyrocketing, but the price of elite-level athletic training rises even more. And if you can’t keep up with those costs, you’ll fall behind really quickly. So it sounds like Kalinins will be getting back out there and selling himself again! Maybe this time for a deodorant, shoe, or perhaps pharmaceutical advertisement.
Not a great look for the Liffeyside prospect, but the team has not retracted their faith, although they have been promoting some of their other, incredibly talented prospects in the meantime while Kalinins “cleans his act up”.
