Adu's Arrival
#1
If you've been keeping up with Freddy Adu's career (you haven't unless you grade my media), you'd know that he's been working to prove that a lot of organizations made a big mistake by passing on him in the first two rounds of the draft. While he's been using that as motivation, he's also ecstatic that he was drafted to a stellar organization with lots of great players to learn from. Going into his second week of action for Kaapstad, Adu had been used somewhat sparingly before being subbed out at halftime. Even with the limited minutes, managers felt that they saw enough from him to promote him to a full time player starting with Matchday 4.

The Arrival

With his promotion, Adu was eager to prove that he was deserving of the playtime he was being awarded. Unfortunately, his first match didn't quite go the way he had hoped. He put himself in some good positions but was unable to convert his chances, admitting he was playing with a lot of adrenaline and it may have played a part. In a somewhat surprising loss to Krung Thep FC, Freddy finished with a 6.2 rating and 0 goals on .8 XG.

For some players, this disappointing performance in a "debut" may have destroyed confidence and started a downward spiral. For Adu, it had the opposite effect. Kaapstad's 5th match of the season was against London, and Adu wasted absolutely no time getting on the score sheet. He scored a goal 4 minutes in, setting the stage for what he would do the rest of the match. After the initial goal, Adu would assist on the next 2 and Kaapstad would roll to a decisive 4-0 victory. Adu finished with 1 goal, 2 assists, and a perfect 10.0 rating on his way to winning Player of the Match. Not a bad follow up! He was riding a high into the next match against Cairo City and it showed. Despite a slow start, Kaapstad exploded in the second half thanks in large part to another master class by Adu. In a 5-1 victory he would add 1 goal and 1 assist and earn a 9.0 rating, good enough for his second straight Player of the Match.

What's Next

Going into the season, Adu was expected to come along slowly and learn under some of the more veteran players before becoming a key piece of the club. That timeline has been accelerated extremely quickly and with his back to back PoM performances it's going to be hard to ever put the toothpaste back in the tube. It looks like Adu is on his way to becoming a young superstar in the league and I personally can't wait to see it happen.
