Well my first friendly as a goalkeeper has come and gone, and the results were, let’s just say, less than great. I knew it would be difficult coming in, given that I’m still way down around 500 TPE and F.C. Kaapstad is a strong opponent. What I didn’t anticipate, however, is the furious pace of play and the sheer volume of shots that a keeper will face in a game (or was this match an exception to the rule?). By the end of full time, I had seen eighteen shots get whistled towards me, with eight hitting the target. Kaapstad ended up with three goals, meaning that at least I managed to make five saves! But yeah, giving up three goals is certainly less than ideal, even if one of them came on a penalty kick. After such an epic ass kicking, I reckon the only thing to do is hit the training ground and work on my shot stopping technique and command of area. I do not know if I will see such an incredible volume of shots in every game, or if this game was just an outlier. No matter what, I will train as hard as I can and be better prepared for the barrage of shots that will be fired at me next time. Onwards and upwards!
