The draft is done, the picks in and the players selected and off to their new digs. New friendships and team-mates, new surroundings and weather, new pressures and expectations.
Luke Walker was asked about what he thought about the draft picks his Organisation made and he was not short on words talking about the players:
So the draft is complete and Catalunya have their players of the future, what do you make of their picks?
Unbelievable draft for Catalunya, truly outstanding. To see the work they did behind the scenes, to be in the room watching them work was a sight to behold. There wasn't a moment when I thought they weren't in control of the situation. The draft can be a fluid situation, with trades and picks shaking up what you are going to do. They handled it beautifully. At the end of the draft there is always a sense of relief, but there was a real feel of excitement. The future of this team is in good hands, with the management and these picks.
There was some surprise when they picked Dennis van Huntelrooy (Jeanious) another ST despite having you already at the organisation, what did you make of that?
What did I make of us getting without doubt the best player in the draft? At a steal of a draft pick? DEVASTATED! Man alive, what a pick that was! This guy is going to help us, this guy is going to help me, this guy is going to take us places. I had seen all the "tweets" and social media about how I'd feel about this once the pick was revealed, what utter rubbish! Remember that management I spoke about, at no point was this a surprise pick to me. In fact I do believe I was 100% behind this pick and making sure the management knew this. This will be the steal of the draft. Every team passed on this guy, he should have been a first rounder. They just gave him all the motivation he needed to go to the top. We grabbed him with our first pick available and never looked back. "When your enemy is making a mistake don't interrupt him".
Star Scream was the next pick, another player that for reasons unknown seemed to slide down the draft despite his obvious ability...
Another pick, another slide, another mistake from everyone else. This guy has came in and you can see his talent. You can see he wants to be here and improve and improve us along the way. He will fit in perfectly to this team. The future is secured. I just for the life of me cannot understand how he wasn't selected top 10 never mind 22nd. He should NOT have been available at 11, why he was still available at 22 will have articles written about it in years to come.
You mention him being available at 22, same with Jeanious at 16, what was the mood in the draft room when both these were available at your first 2 picks?
Like winning the lottery twice in a row. I think we may have had both guys going in top 6, certainly top 10 at the least. We never in our wildest dreams thought we'd get either of them without having to move up in the draft. But now we get to reap the rewards of being patience and allowing the draft to come to us and making the correct call where others faltered.
Jayson Bryzski (JaytheGreat) was the last draft pick for you guys, being picked 36th...
Another great pick, David Doug II had been beating the drum for this guy for weeks. He has known Bryzski for a very long time so that alone meant we may have known more about this pick than the others. This reunited these two and I really do expect big things from him. Doug is a guy that can be trusted, so if he goes to bat for you, you know it's a hit!
Is there any words of encouragement you can throw the way of this draft class?
The hard work starts now. If you didn't get drafted where you thought you should have been, go out there and prove why they were wrong. I myself was drafted 19th, which looking back was every team overlooking me. Not one of them will do that again. How @CamGoldenGun got drafted before me will forever haunt my nightmares. But I digress...go show that everyone else made a mistake in either not trading up to get you, or not picking you when they had the chance.
