Theme Week - Greatest Football Kit
#1
The world of football kits is an interesting one. Some are simple (like the man United red), some are patterned (Croatian checkerboard) and some are fuck ugly (I'm looking at you Hull City 92-93 kit).
The thing that has ruined football kits for a lot of us is the garish, hideous, over the top sponsor logos. These often look out of place and destroy an otherwise gorgeous aesthetic so I'm going to arbitrarily rank my favourite kits that I remember from the days when I actually semi followed football. I may throw in a more recent kit or two but we'll see.

I'm going to start off with a bit of a ramble about Goalie Kits. Goalies always get the short end of the stick when it comes to kit. 11 players on the pitch, 10 of them look suave and matching, then you look at the large lad in net and he's wearing the goofiest shit you can imagine. But here's my vote for most Iconic (not necessarily good) Goalie kit of all time (aka, the kit I like the most that I could find with a 2 minute Google): it's this Spanish number from 2010 being worn by legend Iker Casillas:

The next kit I'm going to shout out is that of my local team Heart Of Midlothian. This kit is a pretty revolting maroon colour, one not seen hugely often in the football world so it gets bonus points on that front. Although I'm not a fan of large sponsor logos, unless I'm wrong this one is for a charity for Motor Neurons Disease, and I respect the usage:

Now the final kit I'm going to show of here has already been mentioned in this article previously. When you see the colours you know immediately what team is playing. The kit first jumped out to me in world cup 98 and it feels like every rendition gets better. The kit I'm talking about is of course Croatias International team kit. The checkerboard look is iconic to them and the latest version is very clean:

The Croatian kit is definitely iconic. I actually own an ugly bright orange goalie kit so I feel ya. Spain a good shout though, Iker iconic af. You local club has the same colour as my elementary school team and tbh I always loved the colour.
