Athenai ready to bounce back
#1
These are stressfull weeks for the people of Athenai. Prior to the season they were expecting to compete for the silverware, but after a promising pre-season start they were quickly shunted out of the SSL Shield by rival Hollywood FC. They are currently involved in a fierce battle for third place behind Sydney City and Inter London, with their chances of making it higher up the podium reduced to near zero. Their cup run was fell short as the team was eliminated in the quarter finals over a two game matchup with, again, Hollywood FC. With two games left to be played in the league the team is confident they can secure the third place, but it is going to take a serious effort to beat their opponents. It could all come down to the final matchup of the season, where the Athenai team once again faces FC Hollywood.

"We are very good as a team and I think we are ready for this challenge," said Cal Labovitch after last week's match in front of the TV camera. Cal thundered down the right flank for ninety minutes last week, but without results. "I'm fit and that's how I feel. As a footballer you want to play as many matches as possible and give it your all every week, that's great.” It didn't bring the team much in their matchup against a weaker Seoul Side, but according to Cal there's nothing to worry about, and the team is fully capable of bouncing back. ''The coach has put us on edge in advance of our final scheduled games for the season. We've had a good week of training and are ready to go and set the record straight."

Sébastien Dubois is the big man at Athenai FC this season, scoring 8 goals and giving 5 assists so far. And the team will rely heavily on him to produce results in the final two matchups. Cal's first full season has seen him netting 2 goals and giving 4 assists in the first 17 games. We've seen him grow considerably over the course of the season, both in football skills, physicals and the mental aspect. He appears to be quicker, better and playing with more confident with every game and if he keeps growing like this there's a big future laid out for the Swiss right winger.
