Cairo on a hot streak
#1
Cairo City FC had a rough start to the season, going 1-7 in its first 8 games, however their run of bad form has done a complete 180 as of late. Cairo managed to take down AS Paris in the first round of the SSL Cup and since losing 4-0 to Tokyo in Week 7, Cairo City has gone 4-2-0 and have won four games straight. Cairo has managed to take down top teams like Inter London, Seoul, and most impressively shut out and outplayed Hollywood in a 2-0 victory.

Much of this recent success can be contributed to the fantastic play of Connor Aspilicueta, as the Gibraltarian striker leads the league in goals with 14 on the season so far. Impressively, 7 of those goals have come in the 3 Cup matches that Cairo have played. Aspilicueta has been coming in clutch recently.

Although its easy to overlook him with the performance of Aspilicueta, Franco Torres is having a strong season and has played a huge role in Cairo's offense. Torres has 7 goals and 3 assists so far and he has seamlessly transitioned to a more wide position than he has normally played. He has been able to develop as a more well rounded attacker by increasing his vision and passing.

Other notable names on offense this season for Cairo have been rookie midfielder Arnošt Hlemýžď and 2nd year attacking mid Pascal Anivierre. Hlemýžď has scored 3 goals this season and has shown flashes of brilliance in his time at right and center midfield. Anivierre's all around offensive skills have been able to compliment the two big strikers nicely and he has totaled 2 goals and 1 assist for himself.

Cairo's defense and goaltending have also improved drastically as well. Both Barflett and Heretic have put together quality starts and the combination of Ask Jeeves, Powdered Toastman, Pierre Houde, and rookie Gabe Johnson have settled into a solid back 4 who can easily contribute to the offense, best demonstrated by superstar wingback Jeeves who has dominated play on the left side all season, he has 9 assists and a goal already this season. Johnson on the right has shown great ball skills and playmaking as well, getting a goal and 2 assists for himself.

Midfielders Alessio Calvatore and rookie Wesley Stains have provided a steady presence in the center mid all season and have done well to transition the ball from defense to offense. Alessio is always a dangerous player, he has 3 assists so far this season. Stains' keep-it-simple style has complimented his team well and has allowed Cairo's best players to control the game.
