Youngster Catches SSL Eyes
#1
Galway United aren’t the most well-known club in the footballing world. They aren’t even one of the” Major” Irish clubs as they compete in the second tier of the Ireland league ladder. But for what the world doesn’t know about them they’re making up for with a highly touted youngster that has risen through their youth academy.

Lochlann O’Rourke is years away from becoming a man, but that hasn’t stopped the SSL club scouts from showing up and watching his games split between the first team and the youth ranks. The young striker has impressed so far during his professional career as he’s found the net a handful of times in his starts this past season. Although at times he looks a bit disconnected from his teammates that is something that the scouts do not appear to be concerned about, chalking that up to surrounding talent and managerial decisions.

As an Advanced Forward, O’Rourke showcases a great mental edge in comparison to his peers as he anticipates the game well and keeps his cool under pressure. A great work rate combined with his natural athletic ability gives him a few chances a game to make things happen, regardless of the team’s system.

For now, his technical side seems limited as his ball playing ability is clearly behind his professional counterparts. With a small worry for his finishing ability and what to do once the ball is in his feet, it might be tough to adjust to the SSL game if he hears his name called at the upcoming draft.

For now, there isn’t a clear picture on what his future might be in the SSL, only that several teams are interested in making a move for the Galway born Striker. Add in Expansion to the mix and it’s possible O’Rourke might be gracing the field immediately come next season. At least his 6’5” frame and natural pace give him a fighting chance at going up against the leagues best. Let’s not forget that O’Rourke is still quite young and any move a team might make has one or both eyes set firmly on the future.

Regardless, Galway United won’t have their home grown striker for much longer.
