After coming up just one point short of promotion in its inaugural season in Division 2 of the Simulation Soccer League, F.C. Kaapstad loaded up during the Season 6 SSL Draft. With four promising youngsters added to the roster, they hope to take the next step this season and earn promotion to Division 1.
Here is a look at the players selected by Kaapstad in the draft.
Pick #4 – Dexter Hall – Athens, Greece
After conceding 18 goals in its first season, it’s natural that Kaapstad sought to improve its defense in the draft. Enter Dexter Hall, a no-nonsense centre-back from Greece. We expect Hall to join David Doug and Abdoulaye Camavinga on Kaapstad’s back line, giving them a trio of young backs to build around for the future.
Pick #6 – Kevin Zimmer – Chicago, Illinois, United States
An intriguing pick for F.C. Kaapstad here, as the club drafted American attacking midfielder Kevin Zimmer. With the likes of Jakup Larsen and Ariadna Tokino Nagatoro Maradona, Zimmer enters a bit of a crowd. Still, Kaapstad seemed very keen on this player, and it will be interesting to see what plans they have for him. It could be a sign of a different look for the squad in Season 6.
Pick #17 – Clovis Payet – Paris, France
Another attacking midfielder, Payet looks to provide more of a goal-scoring flair than Zimmer, which should be a welcome addition to the squad alongside Lochlann O’Rourke. With the departure of Hollywood FC loanee Lamp Lamp, Payet should have a spot in Kaapstad’s attacking corps, whether it is an attacking midfielder or striker.
Pick #18 – Joshua Suarez – Las Vegas, Nevada, United States
Another American joining the fray in South Africa, Joshua Suarez was Kaapstad’s fourth and final selection in the draft. Like Zimmer, Suarez is an interesting addition for Kaapstad, since they didn’t use many wide midfielders such as Suarez last season. No matter how they use him, it will be difficult to miss the 6’6”, 239 lb. Suarez on the pitch.
