Life in the big leagues
#1
It’s been a whirlwind couple of weeks for Glenn Smart. Just a few weeks ago he was an amatuer footballer, waiting for the out come of the S7 SSL Draft, completely unsure of where his professional football career would take him — if anywhere at all. He had always been deployed as an anchor in midfield, winning the ball back, playing it off to someone with a little more creativity in their game and generally just putting a shift in. However, at the professional level, things are a little different. Despite his relatively small stature, he has been deployed by AC Romana as a center back, as part of their young back four.

It’s been a rocky few games for Smart, as he struggles to find his feet within the league. Strikers were initially breezing past him and he still finds himself slightly out of position from time to time, allowing attackers to slip in behind him. There has also been multiple occasions where he has really struggled with overloads down his channel. Despite those struggles, he has made some pretty big strides — particularly in the speed department, working overtime in training to ensure he’s able to keep up with the best the league has to offer. It’s not going to be easy getting up to speed but so long as there is progress, he should adapt to his new position well.
