With the rise of leagues and stadiums having their naming rights sold to corporations, it begs the question: are players next? Here at The Daily Post Athenian, our top report Diogenes decided to sit down with Athênai FC's right wingback A Singular Tub of FazeBerry ® GFuel ® Energy Formula - The Official Drink of ESports ® to understand why and how he sold the rights of his name to GFuel ®.
So far we don't know much about A Singular Tub of FazeBerry ® GFuel ® Energy Formula - The Official Drink of ESports ® other than that he's American (but not what city or even state they're from), at 6 feet a taller than average wingback, and yet still extraordinarily fast and agile. The following is an interview between Diogenes and A Singular Tub of FazeBerry ® GFuel ® Energy Formula - The Official Drink of ESports ®:
Diogenes (D): So um, A Singular Tub of FazeBerry ® GFuel ® Energy Formula - The Official Drink of ESports ® I guess the elephant in the room is why did you decide to sell your rights to your own name?"
A Singular Tub of FazeBerry ® GFuel ® Energy Formula - The Official Drink of ESports ® (GF): "Well to be honest with you the extra income is worth more than my contract to play. Athênai is a newer club in a new league and for GFuel ® it's cheaper to buy the rights to my name then say a whole league or stadium, but it certainly gets people talking. A lot of people say my name is a mouth full or takes up too much space (on my license for instance), but it also affords me privacy since no one knows my given name at birth. That's a different me and this contract with GFuel ® represents a new chapter in my life."
D: "Wow, that's some mind boggling stuff, so do you think you'll be the one to set a new precedent?"
GF: "Yeah, I mean why not? It's already benefited me a lot in my short career."
D: "Do you think this could potentially be another way money tries to ruin the sport? Aren't our names something meant to be sacred?"
GF: "Honestly, I needed the money and I was offered this contract before my professional football contract. How could I not turn it down?"
D: "Well, I think about wraps up our time today. It was nice to meet you and learn more about you A Singular Tub of FazeBerry ® GFuel ® Energy Formula - The Official Drink of ESports ®. I know our readers have been dying for us to interview you in regards to your name."
GF: "Hey thanks for having me Diogenes. It's been a real pleasure moving here and enjoying Greece in person for the first time. You know, I studied a bit of classics in school, but to be here is special. I hope to be a long time regular here and at Athênai FC."
