2023-09-17, 11:27 AM - Word count:
So after making the world championship last season, I decided another fun little experiment would be the team of the season tournament. With the SSL running for 10 seasons, 6 of those having 2 division we currently also have 16 team of the seasons. For this tournament I took the main 11 players (so didn’t use the bench team of the season players from season 10) from each team of the season, with the champions tactic taken from the final available FM22 file of that season (in hindsight maybe taking the tactic from the team with the manager of the season could have been more fun, but hey too late for that now). Following this all 16 teams played each other once in a league format with the winner being the one with the most points. The players will have the stats they had in the final available FM22 file of that season, and the tournament was run in the Versus gamemode which does mean suspensions and injuries are a thing, when these happen a grayed-out player took over, and because of me seeing the mistakes I made with these players in the world cup they were an actual downgrade in this one. The matches were simmed which meant the assistant made substitutions and possible changes to the tactic, for how the playing 11 would be set-up I used the auto-select button in FM22, and switched out grayed-out players for actual players when possible.
If anybody wants to know who is on which team, this can be viewed by looking up the past team of the seasons (or team of the year).
Division 1
Division 2
Enough about that let’s go look at how the tournament actually went.
Matchday 1:
Season 10 Division 2 – Season 1 Division 1 (11-0)
Season 5 Division 2 – Season 7 Division 1 (0-2)
Season 6 Division 2 – Season 5 Division 1 (1-4)
Season 7 Division 2 – Season 2 Division 1 (5-2)
Season 8 Division 1 – Season 3 Division 1 (4-0)
Season 8 Division 2 – Season 10 Division 1 (1-3)
Season 9 Division 1 – Season 4 Division 1 (2-1)
Season 9 Division 2 – Season 6 Division 1 (1-5)
Some fun facts about this one, the Season 2 Division 1 team had a red card for Hunter Jones, which is the first red card of the season. Outside of scorelines I wouldn’t say there are big upsets (maybe Season 6 Division 1 beating Season 9 Division 2, but that is the risk that Division 2 team of the seasons have).
Matchday 2:
Season 1 Division 1 – Season 5 Division 2 (0-10)
Season 2 Division 1 – Season 10 Division 1 (0-5)
Season 3 Division 1 – Season 7 Division 2 (1-3)
Season 4 Division 1 – Season 6 Division 2 (3-2)
Season 5 Division 1 – Season 10 Division 2 (1-1)
Season 6 Division 1 – Season 9 Division 1 (0-2)
Season 7 Division 1 – Season 8 Division 1 (2-0)
Season 9 Division 2 – Season 8 Division 2 (6-2)
There was once again a red card, this time at the kind of upset match with Season 8 Division 1 player Kofi Anshah Getting a late red card which did cause the 2-0 to fall soon after. Another surprising result is the Season 5 Division 1 team drawing 1-1 against the Season 10 Division 2 team.
Matchday 3:
Season 10 Division 1 – Season 3 Division 1 (2-0)
Season 10 Division 2 – Season 4 Division 1 (1-1)
Season 5 Division 2 – Season 5 Division 1 (0-3)
Season 6 Division 2 – Season 6 Division 1 (2-1)
Season 7 Division 2 – Season 7 Division 1 (1-1)
Season 8 Division 1 – Season 1 Division 1 (6-1)
Season 8 Division 2 – Season 2 Division 1 (7-3)
Season 9 Division 1 – Season 9 Division 2 (3-0)
No red cards for this matchday. It did have quite a few D1-D2 matches, with this getting quite a few upsets. The Division 2 from Season 6 beating their division 1 with 2-1, and the Season 7 divisions drawing eachother 1-1. The season 9 and Season 5 divisions did have their predictable wins, both of the division 1’s winning 3-0. For the rest Season 1 and Season 2 kept getting beaten badly.
Matchday 4:
Season 1 Division 1 – Season 7 Division 2 (2-8)
Season 3 Division 1 – Season 2 Division 1 (2-1)
Season 4 Division 1 – Season 5 Division 2 (5-1)
Season 5 Division 1 – Season 8 Division 1 (2-1)
Season 6 Division 1 – Season 10 Division 2 (0-0)
Season 7 Division 1 – Season 10 Division 1 (3-4)
Season 9 Division 1 – Season 8 Division 2 (3-0)
Season 9 Division 2 – Season 6 Division 2 (0-0)
No reds once again, but we did have the first 2 0-0 draws, with the division 2’s from Season 9 and Season 6 drawing 0-0, and Season 6 Division 1 drawing 0-0 against Season 10 Division 2. The biggest upset was probably the 2-1 win from Season 5 Division 1 against Season 8 Division 1. There was also a bottom of the table match being played where Season 3 won 2-1 against Season 2.
Matchday 5:
Season 10 Division 1 – Season 1 Division 1 (7-0)
Season 10 Division 2 – Season 9 Division 2 (1-2)
Season 2 Division 1 – Season 7 Division 1 (1-5)
Season 5 Division 2 – Season 6 Division 1 (3-2)
Season 6 Division 2 – Season 9 Division 1 (1-1)
Season 7 Division 2 – Season 5 Division 1 (1-3)
Season 8 Division 1 – Season 4 Division 1 (4-0)
Season 8 Division 2 – Season 3 Division 1 (3-2)
Finally after 2 matchday without one, a nice red card for Season 6 Division 1’s Vins Vins. For the rest this matchday included an 1-1 draw between Season 6 Division 2 and Season 9 Division 1, and Season 3 coming close against Season 8 Division 2 but losing 3-2 in the end.
Now let’s take a quick look at the current standings after 1/3rd of the league is done.
Ok so like probably expected Season 10 Division 1 is in 1st winning all 5 games so far. There is an interesting team in 2nd, with Season 5 Division 1 being the 2nd best team despite being from Season 5. Some other interesting ones are Season 7’s Division 2 being above the Season 7 Division 1 team, and the same being the case for season 6’s teams. Also interesting is how good Season 5 Division 2 has been to be above Season 8 Division 2, and both Season 6 teams. At the bottom we do see the 3 probably expected teams with Season 1, Season 2, and Season 3 not really getting the hang of the other team of the seasons, but Season 3 is playing close only having an -8 GD.
Looking at the player stats, we do have Aloisi (S7D2) and Bobby (S8D1) both being on 9 goals, with Bobby (S10D1) following with 7 goals in 3rd. For assists we see Tälli (S7D2) being the top player together with Nesse (S8D1) both on 5. The highest average rating is for Bobby (S10D1), while for Player of the Match Nesse (S8D1) has gotten it in 3 of the 5 games played so far. Carrigan (S10D1) and the Heretic (S9D1) both have 3 clean sheets, with Yoker (S10D1), Jeeves (S2D1), and Bryzski (S6D2) have the most yellow cards with 3 each.
In the above picture you can see the currently played fixtures. The standings are made with the team of the left as “main” team, and the top at the top the team they played again (so for example S1D1 lost 0-10 against S5D2 and thus the match is a loss (red)). Red is loss, yellow is draw, green is a win.
I hope people like this, am planning to post them in groups of 5 matches. If you want to see the file itself, this is the file after 5 matchdays: Team of the Season tournament after MD5
