Cairo City - With the second SSL Prospect Draft just around the corner, Cairo City FC striker, Franco Torres, took a moment to speak with the media. He reflected on his first season in the SSL and gave his thoughts on the season to come.
"Obviously, I wanted to win everything. I wanted to see Cairo get the double. But we lost to the eventual champs, and that'll happen. At least we weren't London who pulled off the SSL's first double (final loss). Personally, I think I did very well. Thinking back at my draft, I was really disappointed to have still been on the board by the ninth round. However, it goes to show that hard work will take you anywhere. You just need a chance. Cairo gave me a chance and threw me on the wing for the first three games. After it was clear that my work ethic was greater than our original striker's, they let me have that top spot. Since then, I never looked back. I led the league in goals for most of the season. I ended up tied for first by the end of it. I'm not sure what the Golden Boot tie breaker is, but I'm not holding my breath on that one. I feel like if there's an MVP award, I should be right up there in consideration. Impressively, O'Conner, who tied with me for most goals this season, was also drafted in the ninth round with me. So, even the title for biggest draft steal is up in the air.
Moving forward, I really like the group we have. We lost a few guys to the expansion draft, but the core of our team is still very much intact. In fact, the expansion draft went about as well as one of those could go. Hopefully we can pick up a good rookie here and continue our winning ways."
