Academy Take 5 - A Quick Dive into Catalunya/Seoul
#1
Having to be a brand new player in the league with zero background, I felt it was based to do a quick dive onto one of the clubs in the SSL, and to learn more about the league.
The European squad of Catalunya is a team towards the bottom of the table working on an intense rebuild with their minor league roster being Seoul. Catalunya finished towards the bottom of the table in the previous season, and has really focused upon themselves to utilize the top players in the S18, and S19 drafts to improve their club.

Leading the Catalunya squad is Hugh Mann who is a player that has been involved in the league since Season 3. Although a mainstay on the major roster, their player has started to hit the regression, and has started to take a focus upon providing their strength and knowledge of the game to the upcoming talent. Hugh is currently the General Manager of the team, and has done an excellent job of keeping up with their progression to ensure that they still remain as a viable backup option for the Seoul squad to call upon when needed.

Despite being on other ends of the world, Catalunya and Seoul established themselves as having a great relationship, providing themselves with friendlies and trades in the past, and was an easy merge once the league got themselves into the merge. Catalunya led by Ljubica Kamenova will be looking to get themselves into the picture, but likely majority of the focus will be upon the newly promoted players to the majors, and the development of the Seoul players. Catalunya currently has an average of 978 which is 2nd from the bottom only ahead of Sao Paulo, but very close to the Romana squad which they plan on trying to trying to overtake this season.

The Seoul squad was sitting 2nd on the table in the early parts of the previous season, but dropping some critical points towards the end of the season. Of course all eyes will be looked upon towards Montreal to have another strong season with the highest average TPE with 914, meanwhile Seoul would be near the bottom of the average TPE with 622. However with how strong they drafted in season 18, and season 19, the development will be evident this season. Players that definitely will be highlighted for this Seoul team is their assistant GM in Aart de Trella, as well as the growth of players such as Kel Varnson, Jordan Bamford, and Bartholomew Twinkletoes. These 4 will be looked upon to take a big step this season, and see if they can push themselves into a slot with the major squad.

It has to be said how much of a great job that Hugh Mann has done, having to keep their player and deal with the regression, but pick up that leadership role instead with the squad. This will definitely be a squad I am intrigued to follow with the leadership of Hugh to see how well they progress, and with such a large draft in S20, will they continue to stay the course in development by making an impact on this draft. Or will they use the draft to possibly make some moves to strengthen their squad in areas of need. They are definitely in a very intriguing position! Good luck to them this season!
