MD4 Recap by Predrag (Sponsored by Istanbul)

We are once again done with an exciting matchday. Truly some impressive results to go over today. So without further ado, here is the breakdown of the 4 games that happened.

Istanbul F.K. vs PS Jakarta 9-0
WOW! What a way to start the day and what a statement win for Istanbul. After that horrific loss against Stockholm, the team put all their energy into getting revenge. Sadly Jakarta was the victim of their war path. What a performance from Marean Dohbra! Incredible, 8 goals! Breaking the record for most goals by an Academy player in a single match and he is looking very likely now to pick up the Golden Boot at the end of the season, possibly with the highest goal total as well! As for the tactical breakdown of the match, well there really isn't much to say in a match like this. The Jakarta defense was picked apart and Dohbra's every run was unmarked, that's why he was able to be one on one with the keeper constantly. Bless Bus' heart, despite conceding 9 goals, he was still the best player on Jakarta, truly shows how much he was let down by his teammates. To be noted, there seem to have been some issues regarding what tactic Jakarta were going to use and this information was never brought to their Assistant Manager, who simply used the same tactic as last week.

Player of the match: Marean Dohbra

I mean, what can I even comment about a game where a player scored 8 goals?

Match to forget: All of Jakarta

This was not the fault of any single player. Simply a domino effect of bad events that lead Jakarta, who were at their most vulnerable, to face an angry Istanbul side.

Port Royal F.C. vs Victoria Falls 3-2

Now this was a much closer match and a proper showing of Academy talent. Roger Roger started the game off quick with a goal in the 4th minute. He got past 2 defenders and smashed the ball down low into the bottom right corner. Victoria Falls would respond with haste as it wasn't even 10 minutes later that Jay-Jay would equalize. This would be followed by another blitz from Victoria as Glacomo would make it 1-2, completely flipping the game on its head. Port Royal would try to steer the ship by creating more chances but by the end of the first half the result stayed the same. It was going to be a battle for Port Royal to get just a point from this game, let alone to try and get away with all three. But all three is what they would get as Victoria failed to show up at all in the 2nd half. Perhaps it was overconfidence, a tactical error or maybe Port Royal was just better. Whatever the case was, it was a complete Jekyll and Hyde show. Roger Roger would get his brace in the 58th minute while Xavius would score the winner for Port Royal in the 86th minute. Victorial failed to generate any chances in the 2nd half while Port Royal stepped hard on the pedal. In the end Victoria was reminded that matches last 90 minutes in football and that you need to be on guard at all times.

Player of the match: Roger Roger

A convincing performance from Port Royal's number 9. Kept a cool head and finished his chances clinically when given the opportunity. While I would be hard pressed to say Roger "carried" his team, he definitely gave them confidence and the right mentality to push towards the victory.

Match to forget: Juozas Kupinas

Truly a ghost of a performance. Nothing done defensively, no chances created and no shots made. It might be cruel of me to say but the only thing Juozas was able to bring to the game was himself so that at least Port Royal would have less space to pass into.

Sydney City vs Stockholm IK 2-2

A tight 2-2 draw was definitely not what fans of Istanbul were hoping to see in their hatewatch. Commentary bias aside, both teams showed a lot in the game and a draw was a very realistic result. Tyranno Criminal was able to open the scoring for Stockholm in the 22nd minute with a magical header from a corner that just barely stayed in from the crossbar. Sydney was able to get back on equal terms in the 35th minute thanks to the efforts of Esa Nahka who stayed in the right place for the rebound and smashed it into the back of the net. Alas, tragedy would strike as only 4 minutes later, Jorgensen would score a screamer just outside the box after a corner. Once again showing that Stockholm are dangerous on set pieces even if the first shot isn't a goal. The final goal of the game was Louis Ashworth in the 52nd minute hitting a beautiful long shot into the top right corner of the net, securing a point for Sydney. A tight match for both teams, though both would hope for a better result. Still, as an Istanbul fan and player, I'll take a draw here any day of the week.

Player of the match: Esa Nahka

A goal and an assist, 3 key passes and 2 clear cut chances. With a game like that Esa would be disappointed to only walk away with one point even if their opponents are considered one of the favorites to win the league this season.

Match to forget: Jimmy Jimstead and Ryan Van Eyndhoven

Both players failed to provide much of use for their teams. Jimmy wasn't able to do much to help Stockholm's defense and was completely run over by Sydney players while Ryan wasn't able to do anything in attack for Sydney and was locked up by Stockholm defenders.

Adowa Accra vs Atletico Medellin 3-1

A convincing home performance by Accra who were able to secure all three points on the day. Atletico tried to hold out against the overwhelming pressure of Accra's impressive attack but the dam came down. Atletico failed to generate any chances in the first half while Accra was breathing down their necks, hoping they would finally slip up and in the 47th minute Zlatan was finally able to score. That was only the first chip in Atletico's armor. After what was honestly an uneventful first half, the second would start much the same. Chance after chance would be wasted by Accra while Atletico defended to the best of their ability. The one to break the stalemate would actually be Atletico. A beautiful team play followed by a long pass to Killua Zoldyc who scored in the 73rd minute would be Atletico's first and only real chance for the whole game. Their joy would be short lived as the dam finally broke down. Dippy Dip would instantly take the lead for Accra again by scoring in the 75th minute. To put the final nail in the coffin, Draz Tathille would score off a corner to extend Accra's lead in the 87th minute.

Player of the match: Draz Tathille

Draz was crucial in Accra's defense and was one of the main reasons why Atletico was unable to produce nearly any chances in attack. The extra goal in the end was just a sweet bonus.

Match to forget: Pinkie Pie

Pinkie Pie was unable to captain their team to victory. An early yellow meant that they had to be way more cautious in their tackles, which when combined with Accra's much better presence on his side of the pitch, lead to a damning score of 6.0

I hope that my commentary on MD4 was insightful and I'm eager to see what's in store for the 5th game, as I'm sure many of you are as well. Till next time.

As a proud member of FC Istanbul (And one I consider to be an integral member if not to inflate my own ego) I endorse this message. Sincerely though watching the Istanbul/Jakarta actually left me with mixed feelings. On the one hand, yeah it was great to see my team win and to contribute a part in that and undeniably watching Dohbra secure 8 goals and propel himself to the top of the top goal scorers in the space of one game was definitely an experience, but on the other hand I do feel for the Jakarta players, especially the debuting players, who very likely put a lot of effort into their tactics and strategies. I sincerely hope the players don't get too crestfallen and recover from it.

On the other side of things I very much enjoyed the Port Royal/Victoria Falls game which as you mentioned was significantly more contested with both teams presenting their equal share of opportunities. It really could have gone either way and I can only imagine the feelings of relief for Port Royal as they secured that 86th minute and the contrasting despair for Victoria Falls as they conceded such a late and unfortunate goal. On paper from both the performances I don't think either side would have been unhappy if the points were shared.

Without sounding too biased, I too was hoping for a Sydney victory after Stockholm swept Istanbul aside last week but alas it was not to be despite a very promising performance from Sydney. A real back and forth competitive match that as an onlooker of the game relished in watching. I don't think either of the sides can be upset with securing a point and goes a long way in helping Istanbul recover that top spot.

Putting aside the controversy brought up regarding some team's tactics which sadly did mire the week, I think all in all it was an enjoyable match day and with any luck, the minor and major league teams are taking note of some of the rookies coming through.

Well done mate, quality assessment of the week.
