Tough. Those are the kinder world Predrag would use to describe the last 4 games for Montreal. Shit would be a lot more apt. Predrag felt like he was banging his head against a brick wall. The preseason and first 2 Minor games looked incredibly promising. But the last 2 weeks have just been collapsing. The tactics he has been making have been failing and he as a player on the pitch has scored 1 goal in the 5 games he has played for the team. The worst part of it all? He wasn't making any real mistakes. The tactics were sound, both in testing and in play. His personal training has been going better than ever. It just isn't working.
The game against Seoul was hard fought. A well earned win in the end but it could have easily been a draw. The game against Kaapstad was a brutal deconstruction of the Montreal team, even if in testing it was always a close game. The London game...God the London game. Predrag scored his only goal so far this season against them. Only for London to score 1 back instantly then also get a penalty few minutes later. Montreal was much much better that game. We kept pushing and pushing. We scored an equalizer but we were trying to get all 3 points. But luck wouldn't go our way.
It just got worse. Paris was such a gut punch. Montreal knew this was going to be a tough match, but when we went up 2-0 we thought luck was finally going to be on our side. The 2nd half was just brutal. We could do nothing. It was like the world turned against us. We lost 2-3. And yet, I think the Athenai game hurt even more. In total, Montreal had 19 shots. Half of those shots were on goal. The xG for Montreal was 3.20 with Predrag holding 1.50 of that. The result? 0-0
At this point Predrag believed he was just cursed. Montreal won the Minor league last season. They were the favorites for this season. They had a great draft and were stronger that the team before. In addition to all of that, he was the team's tactician. But he was 5th. That was the truth. He had done nothing for the team as a player and as a tactician. The part that hurt the most was that everyone in the team agreed he had done nothing wrong. It was truly nothing but bad luck.
He hated that fact. Hated "bad luck" with a burning passion. If he made a mistake in tactic building, if his abilities on the pitch were lacking, he could have something to blame. He could have a goal to achieve. He could have a problem he could fix. But you can't fix misfortune. You can't win against bad luck. The dreams of a back to back Montreal win were slipping from Predrag's fingers and he could do nothing about it.
There was an eerie recognition of the fact that if Montreal wanted to win the season, they would need to literally be perfect until the end. All Predrag could do was go back to the drawing board.
