Rashford II Leads Reykjavik's Goal Scoring Machine
#1
Miko Rashford II is an absolute, goal scoring machine. His boot is a huge reason why Reykjavik United has pulled even into a three-way tie for first place in the SSL Majors table.

His success is part personal aggression, and part team tactics that focus on creating chances for the striker who has a panache for successfully finishing chances.

As of the date of the publication of this article, Rashford II leads the Majors with 24 shots on target (the next closest is teammate Alessandro Del Pirlo with 20). He has taken 45 total shots, second only to Del Pirlo who has taken 50 shots, and a whopping 10 more shots taken than the next man on the list, Pete Martell who has taken 35.

Rashford chases the back of the net, and with volume chances he has found it often. He is second in goals scored with 10, only one behind league leader Julian Rubio’s 11 (the aggression of both players and the pressure placed on defenses has led to 4 penalty goals scored apiece as well).

Reykjavik seeks out opportunities to feed Rashford – and Del Pirlo – the ball for scoring chances. They club has three players who rank in the top 6 for attempted passes and two players in the top 6 for successful passes and key passes. Santos Neymarinho leads the league with 20 chances created and when not scoring goals himself, Del Pirlo is likeways creating chances (his 11 chances created is sixth most in the majors). Reykjavik has four players ranking in the top 10 for open play key passes as well.

It’s all by design. This club is focused on trying to score as many goals as possible. They know they have two of the league’s best strikers in Rashford II and Del Pirlo, and so they push tempo and flood passes forward to try and give them opportunities. It’s worked out tremendously so far. Reykjavik leads the league with 27 total goals and Rashford’s effort accounts for nearly 40 percent of the overall offensive production.
