S22 Expansion and League Structure

Expansion

The league will expand with 2 organizations in S22 and as such we will have some additional changes to the league structure in order to accommodate the added number of teams.

First and foremost is the schedule for the upcoming Expansion process:

- 28th of July, deadline for submission of protection lists from each organization.
- 10th of August, Offline Expansion Draft results will be posted to the forum after its completion.
- 12th of August, start of offline S22 Prospect Draft. Draft results will be presented via a live show on the 17th of August.

The expansion managers will be given permission to reach out to anyone not on the protection lists prior to the expansion draft. All players should have been notified by their manager group if you are protected or not by the 28th of July.

After the summary post has been published each expansion organization will begin inviting the selected players to their new locker rooms.

In the first 10 rounds each expansion organization will select one player each from each of the available organizations after which follows 5 rounds where only one additional player from each organization may be selected. In total, three picks will be made from each current organization.

Changes to the league structure

In order to mitigate the added number of league games this expansion will provide, the SSL Cup will now be a single leg knockout tournament.

16 teams will begin the cup in the first qualifying round where the winners will join the top 8 Major teams (using last season's standings) in the Round of 16. The winners will then move on to the Quarter, Semi and Final.

In total these changes means that each team will guaranteed play minimum 23 games (22 league + 1 cup) compared to the current 20 games (17 league + 2 cup), so more games to see your player on the pitch! On the other hand this change has also forced us to make use of Commentary Only highlight settings for a number of the season's matchdays.
