Kaspars on the World Stage
#1
Eastern Europe should be thrilled to watch Kaspars Kalinins developing as he has, for their goals of a solid showing in the next World Cup.

There is still plenty of time until that point, but management should be watching as Kaspars aims to learn from, and hopefully surpass the veteran Knezevic, and claim the Defensive Midfielder position in their roster.

The world of SSL does not mirror that of the rest of the soccer world, in that North America tends to be the most populous when it comes to filling out national rosters, with some of the greatest soccer factories of South America and Africa struggling to put together enough options to field a dominant lineup. Eastern Europe however, tends to be a bit of an underdog in both contexts, which leaves lots of room for a young Latvian to come in, and try to make a difference.

There have been some exceptional midfielders that have come from the region in the greater soccer world, so one would imagine that their experiences could provide some inspiration and influence on up and coming midfield talent. We shall see whether Kalinins can live up to that hype, and whether he’ll be able to inspire a renaissance of sorts of Eastern European soccer legend.
