Operating Costs

The Stockholm Academy squad have been hit with a controversial “return to office” policy, which has fans confused, players frustrated, and management reeling.

This is a first of its kind policy in the SSL, let alone in the greater soccer world. And in all honesty, we’re not even sure what it means. The team owners describe how important it is for all team members from staff to players, to work alongside each other in person, in order to foster better communication and productivity. That all makes sense, except they’re demanding that a specific number of hours are spent by the entire squad at each specific team-owned venue relative to the running costs to operate them. That means many of the team meals, massages, and casual practices have to be done on the main regulation pitch, as other specialized forms of training hog all of the specific venue timeslots.

Fans were initially excited to see their favourite Academy players in all forms of action in the competition pitch, however Management has also decided that these festivities would not be open to the public, to limit distractions. This was met with social media backlash, and in-person protesting.

We’ll see whether the Stockholm ownership keeps this odd policy, or whether they find some other way to make do with their real estate investments.

Interesting policy to enforce, we'll see how it works out.
