There is so much to train already, and trying to balance all of the possible strengths, weaknesses, and general considerations is simply too much to bite off all at once. So it’s been important to Kaspars Kalinins to set some guidelines to ensure that every move he makes is aligned with his short-term, and long-term goals.
The first guideline is that every practice session must be undoubtedly useful, regardless of on-pitch tactical implementation. As a young player in this league, Kaspars Kalinins does not have the capacity to define a team through his existing prowess. He will not be a team’s star for a long time yet, and he cannot go out on a limb as if he is one. He can not afford for any amount of his effort to be wasted, not this early.
The second guideline is that being in the right place, at the right time, is more important than technical proficiency. If Kaspars Kalinins never has the opportunity to execute his skills because he is never in the place to do so, he has no technical skills at all. Moving his feet, controlling the ball, and making smart decisions will have a greater positive impact than any one majestic play.
And finally, Kaspars Kalinins will likely play in a lot of tough positions, in frustrating games, with imbalanced circumstances. He must be able to show up anywhere, anytime, as if every circumstance was the same. He doesn’t get to just revel in the wins, but he must fight until the final whistle in the most bitter of losses.
