I want to start this article with a question: was your love for football/soccer always there? Because for me the answer is no.
When I was a kid I didn't care much for football, it actually bored me. Whenever there would be a big match on the television or in my city's stadium I would sigh. I distinctly remember how I would beg my father to let me play videogames during halftime, how I would not care about the game, how I would just watch the clock reach the 90th minute. One time there was this match of Serie A in my city's stadium because one of the other stadiums where it was supposed to happen flooded. My father got us two tickets for said game but I got bored and asked him to leave when the match wasn't even over.
So why am I here? Taking part in this league? Writing this article when I could be doing something else? Why did I start to love the game that I once hated so much?
It all goes back to the 2020 lockdown, when I was bored and had nothing to do beside from attending online classes in the morning. It was then that I started to look into football for the first time in ages, buying that year's FIFA. One career after another I got more and more information about football. The players, the stadiums, the teams, the formations and tactics, all these things just flooded my brain and found themselves a place in my head for the rest of my life. When Euros 2021 came around it was the end, I was now a football fan.
In the end, it wasn't my father that brought me into football, it wasn't my friends or any other, it was football itself that with its beauty amazed my younger self into not being able to live without it. Football gave me both incredibily happy and sad moments. I saw my team win its first European trophy, I witnessed some glorious wins and some heartbreaking losses, but most importantly it made me realise how beautiful this game actually is and how I've been sleeping on it for all this time.
