Offseason

He was barely beginning a professional soccer career, but it seemed Tlacaelel Tepoztli was becoming an extreme traveller. First came leaving Mexico for Haiti, then Ireland and then Madagascar. Then to Montreal after a brief visit to Germany, where he was beginning to hope his soccer future lay.

And a swathe of other places besides, as there were endless road games to travel to, across the wide world.

One day, he would hope to be at the top his craft, and have the privilege of playing in his home country. Until then, he at least had been offered the privilege of playing for his homeland - or at least, its general region - in the World Soccer Football Cup. Never mind that half the team was Mexican, he was playing for "Central America."

In the mind of most Mexicans, this was a mild affront, as they saw their homeland as part of North America, with Central America, if one insisted it existed at all, being a thing that would have existed to their southeast. In the mind of Tlacaelel Tepoztli, it didn't matter much, as his personal allegiance was far more to the indigenous peoples that still spoke Nahuatl to this day. He was more Mexica than Mexican, and the difference mattered. But since it was an honour, he was willing to try being merely a "Central American" for a short span of games. Such is the world, in its geography and politics.

The team should go as far as their veteran keeper, Benecio Aguilera III, might take them, if they were lucky. In front of their keeper, strong defenders, around them, three wingbacks. Further up... well, there was hope for the future, but perhaps a lack of experience at present. In time, if Tlacaelel would be lucky enough to return to this competition, they would have some offence. With luck, new defenders and a new keeper would come through the pipeline to replace those at their peak now.
