Xelajú / Masques Draft Class S23 Top 3 - Time to push on
#1
With the new season just days away (minus a few friendlies in the way) we have decided to look at the Season 23 draft class and their top 3 picks and their improvement since they first joined the team. With a full season now behind them and more experience to back them up, we want to see where each player of this class is improving and maybe a suggestion of what he should look to improve.

Seth McNeil - @CamGoldenGun- RD

With speed to burn down the right side, McNeil has shown great improvement all of last season and we expect nothing to change this season. At times his mix or pace and dribbling can be a nightmare for and defenders to deal with and really gets the crowd going when he has the ball at his feet. Does not shy away from a challenge despite not being the greatest tackler but shows a real bite to his defending. With 6 assists and 1 goal to his name last season he'll want to add more to that assists tally while popping up with a goal or two, however that goal is very unlucky to be anywhere from outside the box with his finishing. This is a player to look out for, he has the attitude to go to the top.

Where to improve: Not so much where but as to what, he has speed to burn so he knows in a foot race he is likely to win. If he knocked the ball past his opponent he would win this race. It would improve his dribbling. With his agility and balance not at elite standards this is his only main drawback as an attacking force. Defensively, his positioning could be better. While his electric pace can cover for any mistakes he may make, better positioning would create a side of the pitch not worth attacking.

Luke Walker - @fathands3k - ST

A physical specimen with no glaring weakness he is a handful if he decides to player a more physical game. But that isn't all he has in his locker, his finishing has long been admired by many with his ability to calmly place the ball with precision into the net or round the keeper if the opportunity appears. A smart runner into the channels to open up space and time for himself and his team-mates and loves to speed up play with his one-twos causing confusion amongst the opposition. He bagged himself 9 goals and 3 assists last season, both of which I'm certain will improve this season. Formed a close bond with his fellow Class Draftee and RD Seth McNeil so both will push each other to their best. Masques will be thrilled with the play of these players with rumours that this is only the start of this dynamic duo.

Where to improve: Always says he likes an assist just as much as a goal, yet his passing and vision are lacking at this top level. If he manages to improve these it opens up the attacking third massively for himself and his team. Also some improvement to his decision making is needed. it's all good and well being in the right place, but choosing the wrong option just kills momentum and the crowd.

Nico Lam - @Zucker- RAM

The right sided attacker is another who is greased lightning when he has the ball at his feet. He can and will run at you given the chance. If he gets this chance and manages to get a shot away, his finishing can punish you. But last season he played more as a play-maker, 3 goals from the right wing isn't bad but the 7 assists showed he was always a threat. He's another player that loves a tackle despite being a bit rash in the challenge, just making the right side of Masques Sacrés a scary place to attack. Has come on nicely as a player and will be interesting to see if his goal-scorer instincts come out a bit more next season.

Where to improve: Almost like Seth McNeil, agility and balance do not highlight his immense dribbling skill. At RAM I personally would want more of a tricky character to slice open the defence with his skillfulness. Decisions at times also have been lacking and would benefit from taking time to analyze what is ahead of him before deciding. He is on the cusp of being great, a few select improvements will make him a RAM to be feared.

Clearly in the S23 draft this team looked to improve their right side, will all three players playing on that side of the pitch (Walker usually plays right side of the front 2). So far it's been a success with both Walker and McNeil being comfortably in the top 6 TPE players to come from this draft class and Lam also currently in 14th. This places all 3 players ahead of or closely around their draft position and a net win for the organisation as a whole.
