Passport-Gate coming to the SSL?
#1
BREAKING!

Sources close to the Simulation Soccer League are reporting that the board of the SSL is afraid that passport-gate will be having an effect on the SSL.

A quick summary about passport gate;
In the dutch Eredivisie the club called NAC Breda has put up a protest against a player of Go Ahead Eagles.
Reason for the protest is that the player of Go Ahead would not be eligible to play in the match of Go Ahead Eagles - Nac Breda that was played on the 15th of march of this year.
The player, who previously had the dutch nationality, got naturalised as an Indonesian to be able to play for the national team, which resulted in the player losing his dutch nationality.
Due to the player giving up his dutch nationality the player would need to have a work permit to play in the Eredivisie however a dutch podcast revealed that the player would not have this permit, resulting in the player being ineligible to play.

The dutch football association (KNVB) took a look at the protest of NAC Breda and said that NAC was right in their protest that the player was ineligible however, as has happened before with the KNVB, the KNVB ruled that the match would not have to be replayed.
The KNVB stated that, after an inquiry from the independent prosecutor, it was found that the ineligibility from the Go Ahead player was true. But the consequences of the player taking on the Indonesian nationality was not widely known by clubs and players in the dutch league.

After the reaction of the KNVB, NAC is going to court against the KNVB and is looking to get the match replayed. Experts say that the club has a good chance of getting the response of the KNVB overturned however questions arise how the rest of the competition will look at the court ruling as it can have a wide ranging effect on other matches this season. The final court ruling will be this afternoon (monday 04-may) after which we will know how this ends (for now).

Now returning to the SSL, which has managed to get a wide ranging variety of clubs and players from different nationalities and countries to play for the league, will be looking at this court ruling with keen interest.
The question arises if all players have a proper work permit to play for their respective teams, and the big question is if all players and clubs are aware of potential issues with permits etc.
Right now sources close to the SSL tell us that the SSL has started an inquiry with all teams and clubs to get a feel for potential ramifications of the dutch court order.
At the moment there is no indication of clubs looking at potential protests of matches however, as seen in the Netherlands, it only needs a podcast to get the ball rolling in the SSL. Hopefully everything will turn out fine but right now the board of the SSL is sweating a little bit and the world is looking at the Netherlands for some closure in this case.
