Ekon's Idols (Part 1)

We all have important people in our lives that help us become the best version of ourselves.  Some of our peers teach us skills and good habits to navigate our everyday challenges, some question our beliefs that we may be too stubborn to relinquish, some provide guidance when our path becomes complicated, and some offer motivation when our goals seem a little too daunting to handle alone.  I am lucky to have a diverse set of role models that have each been there to help me as I worked through international relocations, career pivots, existential dilemmas, and everything in between.  This series of articles, Ekon's Idols, is dedicated to highlighting their stories.



Each week over the season, I will share my relationship with one of these important people.  A few characters you will meet are Uncle Rei who had a strong influence on my childhood growing up on Tenerife, my university professor Dr. Estrella who supported me while I grappled with competing interests in geology and football, my first professional football coach Sar who helped me thrive as I was thrown headfirst into the SSL academy, and my friend Ashraf that has been around to keep me rooted as fame started to rise during my early career in Cairo.  Tune in for each article to help me celebrate these incredible people that have always seemed to show up in my life just when I needed their support the most.
