Leonardo Stone Season in Review
Long time no see Leonardo fans! Luckily, my hiatus from the media occurred during the best stretch of my professional career… I’m sure that it has no correlation…
Anyways, the season has finally finished for Cairo City, and it ended quite beautifully. For those unaware, Cairo finished on a 9 game win streak en route to winning the Division 2 Minors title this season! In just year 2 for Stone on Cairo, they have climbed from the bottom of the barrel in Div2 all the way to being promoted to Division 1. Stone himself had a massive influence during this streak, and scored 7 goals during this stretch. Stone would finish the season with 7 goals (yes his first goal came almost halfway through the season) and 3 assists this minor league season. And not only that, but he finished with an average match rating of 7.30, which needless to say, is a massive improvement over previous seasons for Stone… Stone also scored a hat trick during this stretch, showing absolute dominance over Athenai in Greece. With the exact same amount of shots taken as last season, Stone scored more than double the amount of goals, proving that the work he put in over the off season was legit. Despite the drama that TMZ has unfolded regarding Stone, he appears to have been able to successfully silence the outside noise and is becoming the striker Cairo knew he could turn into when they drafted him in the third round just a few short seasons ago. What a steal Stone has turned into for Cairo.
Now, looking towards the future, Stone is ready to show the world that Cairo City belongs in Division 1 and even has made the bold claim that Cairo will claim the Minor Division 1 title next season. While seen partying at a club in Cairo following their win to clinch the title, Stone was secretly filmed in the now viral video telling fans he’s scoring 10 goals next season, “at a minimum,” and to “buy a Stone jersey now before it's sold out.” While he did appear to be heavily intoxicated, Stone clearly has some lofty expectations for next season, and if his previous season by season improvements mean anything, it’s not ridiculous to think he may be able to uphold some of these bold claims. Stone made the claim before the season that Cairo would win the title, and despite not being the favorite, Cairo was actually able to do it and beat out the heavy favorite Inter London. Could he and Cairo do it again next season to beat out the vaunted AS Paris? I suppose only time will tell, but it is certainly a headline to watch this upcoming season.
