Season 4 of the Simulation Soccer League is now officially underway and excitement is at an all time high with a huge influx of talent being injected into the league via the entry draft. Season 4 was the biggest class since Season 1 thus it will have a large impact on the landscape of the league. The teams who had great drafts will see them succeed with a new core of players or some nice complimentary pieces. On the other hand, teams who whiffed on their picks will have missed a golden opportunity to add superstars to their club and may be a step behind the teams that nailed their drafts for a few seasons.
As of writing this, each club has played 2 matches. Game 1 of the season for my team, Cairo City FC, was vs Buenos Aires, resulting in a 4-3 victory for Cairo. The first goal from Cairo came from none other than superstar striker Franco Torres, who cleaned up a rebound off of a shot from Pascal Aniviere after some quick ball movement.
Goal number 2 came off of a great cross by Ask Jeeves, who swung the ball to the head of rookie midfielder Arnošt Hlemýžď. Hlemýžď redirected the ball to the foot of Aniviere who then laid the ball back off to Hlemýžď who fired a shot for his first goal in his first game/start!
The 3rd goal came off another beautiful corner kick from Jeeves who had himself quite the match on the left flank. Jeeves whipped the ball into the box directly to Connor Azpilicueta who headed the ball into an open goal. Jeeves made it very easy for Azpilicueta who made no mistakes about finishing the play off.
Cairo’s last goal of the game, which would end as the game winner came from Franco Torres once again. After an unsuccessful corner kick, Aniviere tracked down the loose ball, which eventually made its way to Pierre Houde who played a masterful through ball over the top which Torres flicked on and into the goal.
