Vive le France, but where else? Part 1
#1
I thought it might be interesting to take a look at where I would most and least want to be if I hadn't already happily found a home in Paris. This will be a multi part piece, because frankly I can get a lot more than 300 words out of it, and so a single piece seems like a waste. I'll be going from 12 to 1, so these teams are at the bottom.

12. Hollywood FC

There's just something off about Hollywood that I can't place. Maybe it's the fact that they named the team after a specific portion of a city, rather than the whole city, not really sure - I doubt Inglewood, or Burbank, or Culver City would feel particularly attached to a team named Hollywood though. It's kind of why there aren't teams called the East Rutherford Giants and East Rutherford Jets, or the Paradise Golden Knights, or why the Cincinnati Airport is still called the Cincinnati Airport even though it's in Kentucky. Teams named after the greater metropolitan area can cast a wider net for fans, whereas teams named after a specific portion of a city aren't as likely to feel like the home team to people outside that portion.

11. Tokyo SC

The weird part with this one is I actually really like Japan and Japanese culture (and no, I don't mean anime, although I'm largely neutral toward that in particular). It's just that there's something so unappealing to me about joining the winners. I'm no Kevin Durant. It feels better to fight alongside your brethren to topple the giant than it does to be the giant, and so I bear no ill will toward Tokyo, but I just wouldn't have any interest in joining them.

10. CF Catalunya

Not only are these guys the cup winners, so they carry some level of the same reasoning as Tokyo (although less, because the cup isn't nearly on the same level as the league) but I'll admit to some level of personal bias against them as well. I'm a Chelsea fan in real life. I can't reasonably join a team that's clearly this league's Barcelona. Paris lost to Catalunya last season - coincidentally, Tom Henning Ovrebo came out of retirement to referee one single match, and it was that one. (Apologies to anyone too young to appreciate a 2009 Champions League semifinal joke).
