Camavinga pt. III
#1
For a long time it looked like F.C. Kaapstad was about to lose the inaugural league game of their history against fellow expansion team Unaio Sao Paulo, before two late goals by Lachlann O'Rourke and Jakup Larsen in the 87th minute and after turned the tide in their favor on Matchday 1 and sent Kaapstad fans into a fanatic frenzy.
This Tuesday, it was both O'Rourke and Larsen notching down one apiece again as Kaapstad moved past Adowa Accra FC in a 2-0 win on the road in Ghana. Goalkeeper LuaLua was able to claim a clean sheet, a first for him in his stint in South Africa.
"It has been a tremendous start for us," said young Kaapstadt centerback Abdoulaye Camavinga following the win over Accra. "We came stumbling out of the gates in preseason, but managed to turn it around in the first two matchdays of the season. I think we can be quite proud of ourselves here. This start is something that we can build on going forward." Of course this season is far from over, Camavinga acknowledged, and that there are lots of games to be played. Personally, the German lad had a promising start into his campaign - he notched seven interceptions against Sao Paulo and finished both games with a rating of above 7. Scouts have noticed his mature play on the pitch, but as mentioned before it takes a whole lot more than two above average games to build a sound reputation - especially at a position where experience and mental toughness are so instrumental.
After two games, Kaapstad is now sitting second in the SSL's Division 2. In the SSL Cup, they have been drawn to play Cairo FC in the opening round - giving them quite the test there to show their money's worth. If the team keeps on improving, the future sure is bright for them.
