Welcome Reykjavik United to the SSL
Howdy friends. It is a distinct honor to announce the new location and brand for Sydney City. In true “Uno Reverse” fashion, the club will be relocating from the sweltering hot savanna of Sydney, Australia to the beautiful landscape of Reykjavik, Iceland.
When thinking through the relocation process, the club wanted to completely redefine itself. To do that, it needed to be distanced (figuratively and literally) from its previous home. I’m honestly not sure there is another country that is further from Australia than Iceland.
Furthermore, the club really wanted to accentuate the rich history and uniqueness of its new home. Thats why you can find a Viking ship on our crest. Although originally occupied by Irish monks, Iceland is primarily known as being a settlement of Scandinavian Vikings. There are a plethora of stories and tales surrounding Icelandic Viking culture, including Leif Erikson, Elves, and Trolls. You can find a summary of interesting Icelandic lore here. https://guidetoiceland.is/history-culture/f...lore-in-iceland

Colors
Green - When people think of Iceland, their mind generally goes to one of two places: 1. Vikings, or 2. Northern Lights. Since we already paid our homage to the millennium's worth of descendants from Vikings, we leaned into showcasing the Northern Lights with the choice of our Primary color: Aurora Green. There will be no doubt which side is from Iceland when fans see a sea of green jerseys waving across the field.
Black - The best time to see the Northern Lights is with the background of the night sky. To mimic that, we chose black as the secondary color to help our primary color stand out even more.
Blue - Since our primary and secondary colors were heavily influenced by Icelandic attractions, we felt it only right to incite some patriotism by including the primary color of the Icelandic flag as our tertiary color.
