Now that the season is over, it is avery good idea for all the teams to take advantage of the Data Hub option that exists within the game, in order to determine what went wrong or right within their systems.
In this post, I am very interested to see what happened to Accra and especially the defensive output that the team had.
Accra tried to play a pressing football, which is mostly based on winning the ball on the opponents third and converting the possession into shots on target.
As per the below graph, this had very average results, probably due to the low agression/pressing attributes of the midfield or the number of players set to that task.
The teams that excelled on that part are Tokyo and Cairo, teams with either multiple players on the midfield or on the opponents third.
As per the passes attempted, all teams were more or less controlled the area before the mid, with generally 28-31% passing for all teams. Accra achieved a pretty average of 12% and 6% on the opponents third, meaning that they were usually against organised defenses (slow transition) or that they worked their way to the box. Either way, those numbers were a lot
lower for the top 2 teams (Hollywood and Athenai) and someone should check for the Tiki-Taka style of Catalunya for similar numbers. This could mean that effective finishing and counter chances could be the real game winners.
For such a pressing style, someone would expect that Accra would have to deal with a lot of defensive actions per game, and actually fail in most of them (due to their position). Actually Accra's defense was just average, not being very busy and not conceding as much as expected (amybe also due to the success of the goalkeeper or the very high TPE CG duo).
If someone would want to see the actuall issue of the team , that would be the heading department. As per the below, Accra has by far made the least attempts on the aerial area and has missed most of them.
Remembering the 6-1 game with Hollywood or the 2-2 draw with Catalunya, Accra managed to conceive 90% os those goals from the air.
Thus, if Adowa Accra FC wants to do better in the fture, it will be important to re-think and re-evaluate the tactics, to match their needs and abilities.
