As the year of 2022 winds down and we look back at what has been achieved here in the SSL, we can see that in the future, there will be a new direction of many teams. And one team that is really looking to have a force of a full calendar year is the new-ish team of Reykjavik United.
From winning a championship only a couple seasons ago with the team still situated in Sydney, to moving halfway across the world to Iceland and completely re-branding the team and changing what they wanted to do. From challenging for trophies to going into a full rebuild with new management and youth at every position, Reykjavik will be a force in only a couple of seasons.
As a player on the team, Claudio Scarpetta has high hopes for the team. Playing alongside his brother, Claudio changing position so that there is room for more of the core to really play and get some minutes all together, Claudio truly believes that this can be a calendar year that the Vikings from Iceland really turn it around 360. From relegation to the Division 2, to promoted and hopefully to champions of the top division. That is the plan that he has, that is the plan that the team has, and they will go out there and achieve it.
