Another season in Division 1 of the SSL is under way for Club de Futbol Catalunya, as the team attempts to win their first league title and retake the SSL Cup. In the SSL, every point counts, and every game is a chance to swing the table in your favor. Having a strong start to the season can set you up for a nice run later in the season, giving you more leeway to drop points to tough opponents later in the season. While some teams like Hollywood and Sao Paulo have started off strong, winning their first 2 league matches, amassing 6 points each, Catalunya has drawn all three of their matches so far.
In matchday one, Catalunya faced off against one of Division 1's most feared and stacked teams, Tokyo Sports Club. With star players all over the lineup, coming away with points after a match with Tokyo is never easy. However, Catalunya managed to shut out Tokyo, resulting in a 0-0 draw. Unfortunately, Catalunya was not able to score a goal themselves, however this game did bode well for the defense and goaltending. Then, Catalunya faced off against Inter London, a team that was just promoted from Division 2. Despite being in Division 2 last season, Inter London should not be taken lightly as they have a very strong back line complimented by star attackers such as K Clamence. Matchday 2 ended in a 1-1 draw between the two clubs. In Catalunya's first cup match in the group stage, they also managed to draw the 3 time defending Division 1 champions, Hollywood FC. Hollywood has dominated the league over the past 3 seasons, so managing to come away with a draw against them is very promising, even if blowing a 2-0 lead was a bit heartwrenching to watch.
Overall, Catalunya has started the season rather strongly, taking points away from some key teams they will be competing against for the league title in Tokyo and Hollywood. Hopefully, the team can start to turn some of these draws into wins, but for now, Catalunya only seems to be interested in artistry. They just cant stop drawing.
