Laurent Gourcuff sets out on a journey
#1
1986, Ploemeur, France. Erwan Gourcuffs mother gives birth to his little brother Yohann who would go on to do great things in the world of football. A Champions League title for AC Milan. A League title with Bordeaux. France footballer of the year in 2009. His impact as a player, and as an uncle, to the young Laurent Gourcuff would show no bounds.

As the young prodigy moved up the ranks in his hometown club in Ploemeur he started getting noticed by scouts around the region. When FC Lorient came knocking on his door, he of course couldn't say no. After spending time in that youth set-up, Laurent became increasingly aware of what he liked to do. Do the dirty work and make runs all over the place to help your team win? No. Score a ton of goals and open up space for your teammates? Not that either. Pulling the strings of play, orchestrate the tempo and setting before finding that impossible pass through the lines of the opposition defense? He lived for that.
Sadly for him, his teammates and staff in FC Lorient did not appreciate the finer parts of football. After speaking to his uncle and his father, he promptly decided to leave for a new challenge. That challenge would be the SSL.

After seeing the newly create league start and boom in popularity, Laurent decided this is the place he wanted to be. And as the freshman season of the SSL is about to close, a new young talent is around the corner ready to lead the sophmore class.

The attacking midfielder prides himself with his skills on the ball and his understanding of how the beautiful game is supposed to be played. A very good player to have behind the striker where he can use his technique, first touch, vision and passing to put his team mates into great scoring positions.

Hope Laurent can be half the talent of his uncle Yohann. I enjoyed watching him as a kid. The SSL needs its own Gourcuff.
