Ioannis Papastathopoulos - Early Days
#1
Hailing for the Northern Greek city of Kastoria, Ioannis , pronounced Yannis, took a love for the sport while receiving a ball from his parent for his 6th birthday. Ioannis grew up in the countryside, living and working on his parents farm while playing with the ball he was first given, effectively neglecting his duties to practice the sport.
Ioannis would spend his afternoon practicing his dribbling skills weeving the ball inbetween the legs of his flock of sheep, and accurately bending the ball to knock olives out of the family olive tree, and this continued until his parents realized that his life was meant to go professional in the sport he loved.
Ioannis’ parents sent him to live with his Aunt and Uncle in Athens to further grow his game where he got to watch the Athenai Club and dreamed of one day playing for the team he grew up cheering for. Once he set eyes on that kit and stadium nothing could stop Ioannis from achieving his goals, and he began to train harder than ever to ensure he could make his dreams come true.
Ioannis felt most comfortable on the wing, being able to utilize his speed, and isolate defenders in the offensive zone while also being sound defensively, however did not like the center part of the field as and I quote, he stated it was too crowded.
Now on the brink of joining the SSL, Ioannis is excited to begin his career knowing he is finally good enough to be a part of the league he so wished of joining in his formative years. Finally he can take a deep breath and await the call to join a team, all he can do his count his blessing and pray.
Will he have a solid career and carve a path to stardom in the league? Only time will tell.
