Fern - From beer league legend to SSL glory
#1
What do you do when you realise you've peaked? Some sit still, some enjoy the calm, the quiet that comes with realizing how far you've come and what you've acheive. Others on the other hand find a way to reinvent themselves, find a new passion, a new project, a new hill to climb. Hockey connoisseur and trivia expert, backbone of a beer league dynasty as the goalie of the Brasserie Chez Stan Boys, international champion and team leader, Fernand ''Fern'' Rivest did it all. Stellar keeper, jokester and locker room extraordinaire, Fern was done with the pads and mask, but he wasn't done being great. One day, as he would usually do, he opened the TV and saw a soccer game. It was new to him. He'd heard of it, but he was hooked. He lowered the recliner, walked to the sporting goods store, bought a ball, some gloves and went to the park. He phoned ti-guy and he was off, started his training, and eventually, even as a middle aged man past his prime, made it into the conversation of the SSL scouts. He was electric, flamboyant, skilled surprisingly enough, but generally an excellent goalkeeper. He was ready to embrace this new challenge and to spark a french-canadian revolution within the league.
