Hello! I’m not well versed in soccer talks and I’m not often someone who’ll converse with others about soccer related topics, as I’m unfamiliar with most terminology around the sport, however I do hope to write something that most people will at least find somewhat interesting solely based on my own thoughts around the S17 draft class! Of course, I would be comparing this to most other sports, where the pick order is typically worst to best. Going off of that, I will try to branch into different topics! First of all, let’s take a look at the S17 Draft.
This draft definitely featured players, but that’s not what I'm going to be talking about. Instead of taking about what I think about the players, I’ll be talking about my ideas around the players and how much of an impact I think they’ll make! Starting with the first 8 picks,
São Paulo, Catalunya, and Buenos Aires find themselves with the first three picks in this draft. I’m sure the top three picks will be these three teams’ all-stars in the future, or the all-stars of another club! Of course, basing my opinion solely around position is a bad idea, but that’s what I have to do for right now! Anyways, these three clubs will most likely find some way to fit these pieces into their plan and will hopefully be set for the future with these three players. Next up is picks 4 through 6, where I think these three will be great players and, depending on the users controlling them, will become just as good as the top three. Maybe not exactly that level, but close enough! 7-14 will most likely be around the same skill level as each other and be as good as the rookie versions picks 1-4 in maybe 2 seasons or so, but will never fully reach being better than the top five picks in this draft. Similarly, picks 15-20 will most likely follow the same development as picks 9-14, where they won’t reach that same goal, but will still be good pieces to have overall, as they will contribute a lot. They may be passed around the league, but that’s to be expected, I’d say! Going below, picks 21-28, with the exclusion of 26, will most likely be used as trade pieces, but that’s it. They would most likely be good on certain teams, but will ultimately fall off and simply be pieces to be given away. The same can be said about picks 33 and 35, as they are in the zone where all teams “pass” on their selection of players.
Next up: I want to talk about the top five rookies, and how they may impact their teams as a whole. As I stated before, São Paulo is set with their first pick, Roquefort Cotswold, who’s sitting on 615 TPE, at the Right Wing Back position. Roquefort has incredible acceleration and Agility, while also being good at a lot of other things, such as anticipation, decision making, positioning, composure, crossing and dribbling, technique, and teamwork.
Catalunya found themselves second with Hercule Hefeweizen, who’s going to be their center midfielder for the future, I believe. Hefeweizen’s acceleration, pace, balance, agility, and anticipation are great, same with their jumping reach, work rate and finishing. Concentration, marking, tackling, and strength are also up there.
Finally about to be out of the top three with Buenos Aires’s Louie Duck, picked third in this draft! duck, right now, sits at 15 agility, pace, and decisions with a 14 in vision, work rate, and crossing. Duck will most likely be a vital part of Buenos Aires’s future as their right back.
Fourth, we have Guðrún Vilhjalmsdottir. The central defender who’s hopefully in Tokyo’s future shows a near natural talent in pace, strength, anticipation, bravery, positioning, marking, heading, and tackling, while also being good at acceleration, balance, jumping reach, aggression, determination, concentration, and work rate.
And finally, at the fifth pick, Goku Atliketwopercent was traded from Hollywood to Kaapstad. Goku has shown their positioning, tackling, decision making, anticipation, acceleration, agility, pace, and marking are close to being second nature for them while strength, concentration, first touch, and technique are things they are actively improving.
