World Simulation Football Classic Announcement
#1
World Simulation Football Classic
The World Simulation Football Classic is the international tournament of the SSL that we tried out for the first time last year when switching engines to FM24 as the final homage to FM22. The tournament was the first attempt at providing another aspect of football to the SSL and we are happy to announce that it will make a more permanent return between January 20th to February 3rd and become a ~yearly occurrence.

As the players in the SSL come from a big variety of nationalities, defining single nations that can participate in the tournament has been difficult so we have instead opted to continue with the regional divisions, where applicable, similar to the 12 federations we saw in the first WSFC tournament. We are now changing things up a bit as we move to a more permanent structure for the tournament and will introduce 16 regions that will compete for the WSFC trophy!

The work behind the scenes to create these regions has been focused on two areas; finding regions that we could see a stable future for given the current nationalities of the player base, and creating regions with an amount of actives that does not strongly exceed that of a starting eleven roster. Thanks to the current members of the BoD and additional help by @Metafiction and @FuriousChicken for discussing ideas, coming up with solutions to issues and helping finalize this structure.

Now there is one standout nation in the current player base that we could not change and that is the United States who has 32 currently active players that would represent them. This was also the case in the last tournament where we gave the American players the chance to temporarily transfer to another federation for that specific tournament. The WSFC is now intent on becoming a more permanent fixture in the SSL calendar which is why we are creating a more permanent transfer system that would allow players from the USA to transfer their nationality to another region for the remainder of their career. More details about this specific transfer process will be presented at a later date.

The regions we have decided upon are shown in this colored and labeled world map. Several of the more general names are still to be decided.

The regions are:
  • Canada
  • United States
  • Central America and Caribbean
  • South America
  • British Isles
  • Norden
  • Pyrenees Union (West Europe)
  • Benelux
  • Alpine Federation (South Europe)
  • Central Europe
  • East Europe
  • Eurasia
  • Asia
  • Oceania
  • West Africa
  • East Africa

The SSL Portal also has an interactive Nation Tracker map that shows how many players come from each nationality and Regional Roster list that lists each player eligible for every regional roster. You can navigate to this view via the Index (top right corner) and the WSFC menu and Nation Tracker.

Regional Manager
The next step in making this tournament a more permanent fixture is introducing regional managers whose responsibility it is to lead the region during the tournament, submitting tactics and engage with the players of the region during this longer-than-usual break from the normal SSL leagues. As the time between tournaments is relatively long we are opting to make this a temporary assignment during the months leading up to the tournament and the tournament period itself. Payment in form of a PT pass will be applicable during this period as well as a monetary payment of a tier 2 job (5 million split over two seasons). Each region may have up to two (2) regional manager.

If you are interested in applying for this position, take a look at the specific job posting here.

Other jobs
We are also looking for other people to help out behind the scenes, specifically with recording sims and commentating. Specific posts for this will be published as soon as we have more details about the schedule.
